About Yard Reckoner

Yard Reckoner is a small independent site of material calculators for do-it-yourself concrete, landscaping and hardscape jobs.

What we do

Each calculator turns the sizes of your job into a quantity you can buy: cubic feet, cubic yards, bags. The geometry is shown on the page so you can check it by hand. Any number that isn't geometry — how much a bag of mix yields, for example — is taken from a published source, quoted word for word, and dated. The sources page lists all of them.

What we don't do

We don't design footings, slabs or piers, and we don't replace your building department, an engineer or the instructions on the bag. A calculator can tell you how much concrete fills a hole; it can't tell you how big the hole should be.

We are not affiliated with QUIKRETE or any other manufacturer or retailer we cite. Naming a product only means its published data is what the calculator uses.

How pages are made

Pages are drafted with the help of AI writing tools. Every calculation is covered by automated tests, and every sourced figure is checked by hand against the original document before it goes live — the check date on each source is the date that happened.
